Luc Verger, French painter, completed the Montmartre Academie under the supervision of Ferdinand
Legers. Influenced by Vlaminck and Matisse, Verger developed his own modernist style. The abstract rendering of ships at sea
became his easily recognized stylistic hallmark. In 1958, Boiron Gallery, Saint-Etienne organized the first retrospective
exhibition of Luc Verger. In 1960s, Verger became known as successful Montmartre street artist. In 1980s- early 1990s, he
taught art and influenced several French artists.
Fishing Boat
belongs to Verger's scarce earlier artworks. It reveals the influence of Dutch school and impressionism, the style which he
abounded in late 1950s.
